Game Writing
In February 2025, I was a writer for Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains on a short-term contract. I wrote the narrator lines (C-3PO), the tutorials, and the in-game database.
Most of C-3PO's interactions were with R2-D2. The challenge was to convey the impression that they were having complete conversations, even though R2-D2 can only communicate through beeps.
I did a lot of researches on Star Wars, getting up to date on the lore and watching many of the movies (as well as edits of C-3PO) to understand not only the way he talks and his quirks, but also why people love him. Understanding why fans care about this droid was really important to me.
When writing him, I tried to reference the movies and iconic scenes while also maintaining a certain distant from them. Monopoly: Star Wars Heroes vs. Villains had to be taken as a credible element of the franchise. When launching a game, you'll notice it takes the form of an arcade machine with holograms. It is meant to be a real object within the Star Wars universe. That meant that C-3PO had to know everything about the characters and the planets, even if he wasn't actually present to witness their stories. In the same way, he couldn't openly show his allegiance to the Heroes. If the player chooses the Villains team, they still had to be complimented and rewarded just as much as the Heroes.
(And omg, he was voiced by Anthony Daniels!!!!)

The challenge? Despite C-3PO's loyalty to a specific faction, we needed to avoid having him show bias toward one group. Each team had to be equally rewarded and celebrated.

C-3PO is known to be a whiny character, but I had to tone down on this aspect of his personality to avoid having him nag the player without denaturing who he is as a droid.
